Dear Kim,

Thank you for contacting me about the Trump Administration’s outrageous policy of separating children from their families at the border. These actions are heartbreaking and do not reflect our country’s values. That is why I have called on the President to end this policy. He decided to take these actions, and he can stop them at any moment.

If the Trump Administration will not end these cruel practices, Congress must act. That is why I have cosponsored the Keep Families Together Act (S.3036), which will prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from separating children from their parents.  The bill also requires that procedures be put in place to reunify those families who have been separated.

Thousands of Michigan citizens have contacted me to share their outrage about this inhumane practice. It is unconscionable that we would punish innocent children and subject them to this kind of long-term trauma and psychological damage.

Thank you again for contacting me. I will continue to speak out and push for an end to this practice. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Debbie Stabenow

It was hard, but a GREAT experience!

Juliette and I put in many late nights to get this done in time.
